Arts, Design & Technology

Arts, Design and Technology prepares children to take part in the development of tomorrow’s rapidly changing world. Creative thinking encourages children to make positive changes to their quality of life.

Business, Law & Economics

We aim to provide an engaging and dynamic learning experience that challenges students to achieve their potential. In addition, students will develop as independent, creative learners and critical thinkers, gaining essential skills for the world of work.

At the end of Key Stage 3 we expect pupils to have fully developed skills in design, logic and programming. This will enable pupils to develop transferable and challenging skills such as problem solving and analytical thinking.

Expressive and Performing Arts

Our curriculum aims to foster understanding and appreciation of performing arts through creative exploration, using subject-specific terms in assessed performances.

Homework is a really important part of learning at Parrs Wood. Homework done regularly throughout your time at school can be the equivalent of an extra year of study. Pupils who do their homework regularly do well in lessons, tests and examinations.

Our Humanities curriculum at Key Stage 3 is built around 2 distinct subjects: History and Geography. The ultimate aim of the curriculum is to help students to understand they world in which they live, how it works, how it has changed and is changing.

Our Inclusion team work with our young people to support their individual learning needs through a holistic approach. We are proud to be an inclusive school. All young people have an equal right to learn and succeed in our school.

Key Stage 4 Choices

Students can choose from 38 GCSE and vocational options in Year 9 to study in Year 10 and 11 alongside their core subjects. They are guided through this choices process via informative assemblies, a comprehensive Choices Booklet and one to one guidance interviews with staff members.


At Parrs Wood High School we have a strong and successful maths faculty. Our aim is for our students to develop a real interest in maths, by deepening their understanding and developing their reasoning skills to become competent mathematicians.
