City of Trees and Parrs Wood High School Tree Planting
Published: 14/03/2025
The first day of planting took place on Tuesday 11th March 2025 on the school’s riverside fields. Three groups took part in a morning of energetic and enthusiastic planting. There were a group of Year 7, Year 9 and a mixed Year group of Eco-club members and Outdoor Skills members.
The City of Trees team were fantastic, very professional and knowledgeable. They organised all the trees for free (a mixture of alder, oak, aspen, holly, crab apple, hazel, elder) and supplied all the tools and woodchip. The children were fully engaged and really keen to be involved. They also showed great understanding of the importance trees have in mitigating flood damage and cutting pollution, along with enhancing our local environment.
Over 165 trees were planted on the day, with a plan to plant around 1200 overall, including two public Planting Days on Saturday 22nd March and Friday 28th March 2025, from 10am-3pm. City of Trees also intend to return for more projects in other areas of the school grounds.
It is encouraging to know that so many young people are genuinely concerned about their environment and willing to do something about it.

A massive thank you to all the kids and staff who came out to plant yesterday! Everyone did your school proud, we really enjoyed how enthusiastic, interested and full of questions all the kids were.
