Your Future Choices programme at Parrs Wood

Our programme is designed to open your eyes to the wide range of choices that are out there both in terms of careers, further and higher education and apprenticeships (after school, after 6th form/college and beyond).

Key Stage 3

Year 7

This year we are getting you to think about what you see around you and dig a little deeper. You are going to explore the Space Industry. Is it just about astronauts and scientists? or is there more to it?

PDC DURING FORM TIME

We instantly think of astronauts and scientists when we think of the space industry but what type of scientists? and who else works in the space industry. There are many roles in the industry that are not science-based.

If the exploration of the space industry opens your eyes to new roles. Look around you and see what else is there that you cannot see at the moment. Is everybody who works in school a teacher?

Year 8

This year we are recognising that we need qualifications and skills to be successful. We know that astronauts need to have science or aviation degrees but what other skills do they need to do their job as an astronaut?

Year 9

In Year 9 you explore your choices at 14 and it?s the perfect time to consider the opportunities that lay ahead. There is no need to decide what your final career may be but it is worth taking a look at what choices are available. Remember that both skills and qualifications are important when thinking about your next step and future careers.

Year 9 Future choices careers fair. An opportunity for parents and students to chat to colleges, Universities, apprenticeship providers and employers about future opportunities. Don't forget to ask about entry requirements, skills needed and the opportunity for future career paths.

Key Stage 4

Year 10

In Year 10 we explore your possible next steps after school and beyond.

AVAILABLE TO YEAR 10 SUMMER TERM

An opportunity to meet employers, apprenticeship providers, colleges and Universities to discuss your next step and beyond. Chat to a panel of young people who have moved on from school through various different paths. Take the Buzz Test and reveal personality traits, skills and possible future careers.

AVAILABLE TO YEAR 10 PDC DURING FORM TIME SUMMER TERM

You will explore your skills and qualities and with this in mind start to think about the variety of choices you could make at 16. You will also explore the Manchester Job market to see which industries make up the local economy. Finally you will start to think about your next step and the potential paths you may take in the future.

Year 11

In Year 11 It is all about your next step after school and your opportunity to create the best application possible.

AVAILABLE TO YEAR 11 WORKING DURING FORM TIME SUMMER TERM

Every student will be given a one to one advice and guidance interview with a fully qualified independent careers advisor.

AVAILABLE TO YEAR 11 14th -15th NOV 2018

Discover the world of business and work through an Enterprise Challenge. During the challenge students work as teams (Companies) to plan, produce and market products to some of our external business partners. This challenge is great for developing and highlighting transferable skills which can be utilised for purposes of CV and college applications.

AVAILABLE TO YEAR 11 19th OCT and 18th DEC 2018

An opportunity to present yourself and your CV to an external interviewer. Our interviewers come from a range of organisations eg. Business, colleges, universities and apprenticeship providers. This is a popular and invaluable activity with our students, giving confidence to approach any forthcoming interviews and providing guidance on how to produce the best application and interview.
